Improving Named Best Workplace for Millennials

August 19, 2024 | 4 Minute Read

We’re thrilled to announce that Improving has been recognized as one of the 2024 Best Workplaces for Millennials by Great Place to Work® and Fortune magazine. This prestigious award places us at number 28 on the list. This recognition is more than just an award; it reflects our commitment to creating a thriving workplace where every Improver can reach their full potential.

List rankings are based on employee feedback. According to the Great Place to Work® website, they partner with Fortune to survey employees around the world about their workplace experiences and find out whether employees feel their workplace is great, while also predicting retention, agility, and overall business success.

Improving currently has 700 millennials working throughout our enterprises. To learn more about their perspective, we talked with several employees about what makes Improving a great place to work.

How has Improving supported your personal and professional growth?

There's always something to do at Improving, whether it’s a public speaking opportunity, book club, community meetup, or training session. You won’t have to look hard to find different ways to grow your skills here. Our culture fosters curiosity and a love for learning new things; when you’re surrounded by great people who are dedicated to growth, you’ll find it’s contagious.    Apart from the various learning and growth opportunities, I’ve found leadership at Improving to be highly supportive of trying new things in different ways. With their backing, some fellow Improvers and I started our own local meetup group, which has been a fun and rewarding experience.

What unique benefits or perks at Improving do you appreciate the most?

For me, the annual Vegas retreat is the coolest perk I’ve ever had at a job. Improvers from all over fly to Vegas for 3 or 4 days, making it a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from different locations. With so many different events and activities, there’s something for everyone. What I appreciate most is how it reflects the value that Improving places on its people; it’s a significant investment in all of us.

What unique benefits or perks at Improving do you appreciate the most?

The unique benefit I appreciate most at Improving is the "Come Together" monthly initiative. I love this aspect of my job because each month has a themed focus, providing multiple opportunities to network with fellow Improvers, our families, and our communities. These initiatives foster a sense of belonging and allow us to connect on both a personal and professional level.

How does Improving foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment?

Improving does an excellent job of building a community in the workplace. I work a hybrid schedule and often find myself looking forward to in-office days to connect with my peers during team days and the numerous social gatherings that the company hosts. These opportunities foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where we can share ideas, build strong working relationships, and form lasting friendships.

How has Improving supported your personal and professional growth?

There are so many opportunities at Improving to learn new skills and to explore new tech communities with a wide set of domain knowledge that the employees are excited to share. When I joined Improving, I was immediately invited to attend interesting technical discussions and take courses on technology I was interested in like GraphQL, and my teammates all pulled me into their communities. Even more important than the opportunities available, Improving does a great job of showing me that my effort toward pursuing professional growth is valued by the team!

Can you share a memorable experience or project you've worked on at Improving?

I was invited to participate in CodeLaunch MN 2024 with the Improving team, and it was quite a cool experience. CodeLaunch is a hackathon event that partners consulting teams with local startups to help jumpstart their business. I got to work with three other improvers out of the Omaha office to “improve” StoryForge’s UX & Architecture as they prepared for a new launch of their product. Working closely with other improvers in a fast-paced experience was such a blast, the product we got to make ended up being exactly what StoryForge needed, and building some rapport with my team as a newer employee was a big win. I was really impressed with how Improving ran the event, and coming from a startup prior to joining Improving I was incredibly proud to work for a company that was giving back to the local community.

How does Improving foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment?

Everyone at Improving is very friendly and is always willing to listen or help with any questions that I have. I really feel like I am encouraged to speak my mind on my teams, so I have been able to contribute to discussions in meaningful ways.

How has working at Improving positively impacted your career trajectory?

I have been able to grow and learn so much by working across different teams and with different clients. Collaborating with diverse people on various projects allows me to easily compare how much I have grown. Looking back on previous projects, I see how differently I have approached problems.
