Navigating Data Modernization in Wood Manufacturing

Overview

The Customer embarked on a journey to modernize its data analytics architecture. Initially utilizing Snowflake and Amazon, the Customer recognized the superior benefits Microsoft's solutions offered for their specific business needs. Partnering with Improving, known for their software development and data analytics expertise, they aimed to overhaul their systems to enhance efficiency and decision-making across their global operations.

The Challenge

The Customer grappled with inefficiencies in its data analytics infrastructure. Critical to their operation was the need for a sophisticated solution to track and monitor executive KPIs efficiently. The Solution

The collaboration began with an in-depth evaluation of the company’s existing data analytics framework. This assessment pinpointed key value-generating projects, notably the Executive KPI Dashboard project, designed to offer real-time insights into financial, operational, and safety metrics. Leveraging Microsoft’s Azure, Power BI, and Power Platform, the project aimed to craft an integrated, cost-effective solution for the company's extensive operations in North America and Europe.

Further initiatives focused on deploying advanced data analytics and machine learning for pulp and wood product operations, automating analytics for insights on fiber loss and manufacturing efficiency. The undertaking also emphasized establishing robust data governance, constructing the Azure framework, and instituting DevOps processes to unify and streamline operations.
