Title: Lead Systems Architect - Position is full time, salaried and will be directly placed with client company

Location: NW Houston (290/Beltway 8)

The Position:

As a newly created position, the company is looking for leadership and guidance on the transformation and change of their current platform into a more modern and distributed system. Someone who has experience building distributed systems using Domain Driven Design (DDD), someone who has experience in Message Busing and Queuing, and someone who has taken a large Monolithic application and broken it up into separate domains. This person will know the pitfalls involved and how to go about transforming this large application.

Team/Environment:

The role will report to the VP of Software Development and the Lead Systems Architect must be comfortable spending time with and mentoring developers in an Agile/Scrum environment as well as being an individual contributor. Strong leadership skills will fit in well along with someone who is outgoing and willing to defend their opinions and positions but will not get offended when challenged. This team likes to sharpen their skills by doing rigorous code reviews and challenging each other’s ideas. The environment is laid back. Life happens and they get that. Relatively new office that has an open floor plan for easy team collaboration. You will have a lot of say in the work that you do and everyone on the team gets a voice.

Technology/Environment:

.NET and SQL Server, ASP.NET and some classic ASP. Other technologies are Ember.js, Web API’s, JavaScript, and Enterprise Service Bus concepts (ESB). A lot of the business logic is written in stored procedures and SQL Server so some of the challenge will be moving that logic out of the database. Previous experience with something similar will be favored.

Expectations in first 6 months:

Get up to speed on current projects, current platform and long-term goals. Would be heavily involved in the re-write of the application, reviewing code and architecting some of the long-term plans for updating the platform to create the new version of the application. Would also lend a hand to help wrap up some current projects and provide feedback on how to move forward.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and minimum 10 years relevant experience

  • Excellent communications skills

  • Excellent documentation/technical writing skills

  • Database design and administration experience with SQL Server

  • Strong OOD, TDD, CI skills

  • Solid experience with software architecture patterns

  • Ability to create distributed frameworks that leverage .NET and TPL

  • Cloud (private and public) architecture and underlying technologies background

  • Solid scripting/development capabilities across various platforms

  • Familiarity and experience in DevOps

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills
